Structure fire at Moosonee Lodge under investigation

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a structure fire at a building in Moosonee on Monday.

OPP, along with the Moosonee Fire Department and Weeneebayko Area Health Authority Paramedic Service, responded to a fire at the Moosonee Lodge on Revillon Road at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Victoria Hillier-Hutchison, the chief administrative officer for the Town of Moosonee, confirmed some details of the blaze shortly after 2 p.m.

“There is currently a fire at the Moosonee Lodge,” she said in an email to CTV News.

“It is under control and we don’t believe that anyone was injured or in the building at the time of the fire.”

At the time Hillier-Hutchison said the fire was expected to burn for a few more hours.

Investigation underway

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation by the OPP in partnership with the Office of the Fire Marshal.

When asked about the possibility of foul play, Hillier-Hutchison said, “I can’t comment at this time about the costs of damages or foul play.”
