Strike could disrupt transit service in Timmins

The union representing transit workers in the City of Timmins will be in a legal strike position as of 12:10 a.m. Sept. 27, the city said Tuesday.

While talks continue with CUPE Local 1544, a labour disruption would affect bus service, paratransit service and the Northern College Express.

“The City of Timmins remains committed to achieving a collective agreement that meets the needs of riders, residents, and our employees,” said a news release from the city.

“We recognize that delivering safe, reliable transit is a core service for the community, and will continue to work towards an agreement that will avoid a strike.”

If there is a strike, updated information will be posted here, as well as through the city’s official social media accounts, the release said.
