A serial rapist who targeted mothers and teenage girls who were home alone with young children has been convicted of charges connected with a series of sexual assaults that took place four decades ago. Robert Hubert Jones, 72, was found guilty of four counts of sexual assault, two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of shop breaking and commit and one count of overcoming resistance by a Calgary judge on Tuesday. The assaults took place between February 1984 and June 1985, where Jones broke into three homes and sexually assaulted them. The victims included a teenager who was babysitting their younger sibling, a young mother at home with her child and another woman who was sleeping at home. Calgary police investigated at the time, but the cases went cold. Jones, who later became an Edmonton resident, was eventually arrested by Calgary police in May 2023 with help from forensic technology and investigative techniques that didn’t exist in the ‘80s.
