Standoff ends at Cambrian Village in New Sudbury

Police in Sudbury say suspects have been taken into custody after barricading themselves inside a Cambrian Village home for several hours on Wednesday.

Greater Sudbury police say the individuals involved in a standoff have surrendered to police in the Cambrian Village in the New Sudbury area of the city Wednesday afternoon.

“The individuals involved have surrendered to police and are in custody,” police said in an update.

“The hold and secure at Churchill Public School has been lifted. Some officers will remain on scene while detectives execute a search warrant at the residence. We would like to thank everyone for your patience.”

There had been a heavy police presence in the area for much of the day after reports of an “individual possibly in distress,” police said on social media.

“Officers have multiple units contained and a perimeter set up. Traffic in and out of the complex is restricted. Community members asked to avoid the area.”

In an email to CTV News, police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said the school and daycare were under hold and secure until the situation had been resolved.

Early in the afternoon, police said the emergency response unit is on the scene.

“The individuals involved are contained within a residential unit,” the update said.

“Officers continue to speak with those inside for a peaceful resolution. Update to follow.”

Still no word on what started the incident or whether any charges are expected.
