Snow squalls possible in the northeast on Tuesday

With some areas still digging out from last week’s snowstorm, Environment Canada says more of the white stuff is headed our way.

Periods of high winds and snow are expected in Timmins, North Bay and Greater Sudbury, with wind gusts up to 50 km/h accompanied by heavy snow.

The squalls are expected Tuesday afternoon in Timmins and early in the evening for Sudbury and North Bay.

“Snow squalls associated with a sharp Arctic cold front may affect portions of northeastern Ontario today,” Environment Canada said.

“Brief periods of very poor visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow may occur. Due to the brief nature of the snow squalls, significant snowfall accumulations are not expected.”

Travel may be hazardous during the squalls and visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.

“Prepare for the possibility of quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” the weather forecaster said.
