SIU investigating October arrest in northern Ontario following complaint

The province’s Special Investigations Unit launched an investigation into an Ontario Provincial Police arrest that occurred in Seguin Township earlier this fall. The probe was launched after an individual came forward last week to report an injury sustained during the interaction with police.

The incident that prompted the investigation took place on Oct. 5, according to an OPP news release on Saturday.

However, it was not until Nov. 27, that the individual attended the West Parry Sound Detachment to formally report the injuries.

OPP defers to SIU

Upon receiving the complaint, the OPP immediately notified the provincial watchdog, a standard procedure when police actions may have resulted in civilian injuries.

“The OPP notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate,” said police

“The OPP will not be able to provide further information.”

CTV News has reached out to the SIU for more information on the incident, but those messages have not yet been returned.
