Two young people in Sault Ste. Marie have been charged in a case in which a victim was kicked, punched and slashed with a knife. The incident took place Thursday evening and involved two youths aged 14 and 16. “Around 9:10 p.m., the two accused became involved in an altercation with the victim, who is not well known to them, in the 200 block of Wellington Street West,” Sault police said in a news release Friday. “During the altercation, the victim was pulled to the ground, kicked and punched and then received a cut to the back of the head and a wound to their back. These injuries are believed to have been caused by a knife. The victim was later transported to hospital with serious injuries.” The 14-year-old was already in custody on an unrelated matter, police said, and was charged with assault, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. The 16-year-old was arrested at the Donald Doucet Youth Centre and charged with the same offences. Both suspects remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
