One of Victoria Park’s beloved swans has died at approximately 19 years old. The City of Kitchener said Otis died peacefully on Friday evening. Otis had been a familiar presence at Victoria Park since arriving in 2009, bringing joy to visitors and becoming a well-known part of the community, the city said. His mate, Ophelia, remains at Victoria Park and is being closely monitored. The city said it is working with a veterinarian to support Ophelia following Otis’ death and is asking visitors to give her space and treat her with care and respect. Otis was previously paired with another swan, Snowy, and had also lost a cygnet, the city said. “We know this news will be very difficult for the many people who came to know and care for Otis,” the city said in a media release. “We are grateful for the community’s kindness and care for both swans.”
