Sault teen facing 15 charges over permanent marker graffiti

A 16-year-old has been charged with fifteen counts of mischief in connection with a series of graffiti incidents in the city’s downtown core over the summer of 2024.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said officers began investigating reports of property vandalism and graffiti in July 2024.

“An investigation revealed the accused youth wrote on property which did not belong to them using permanent marker in fifteen separate incidents between July 2, 2024, and September 11, 2024,” police said in a news release Monday.

Police located and took the teen into custody on Friday.

The accused, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with 15 counts of mischief under $5,000.

The teenager was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 10.
