Sault senior charged with sexual assault

An 81-year-old local man has been charged with sexual assault following an incident last week outside a Sault Ste. Marie business.

Police said that 911 operators received a report of a sexual assault in the 200 block of Second Line West at about 10 a.m. on Sept. 22.

“An investigation revealed the accused had knocked on the window of the victim’s vehicle and, when they rolled it down, touched them in a sexual manner without their consent,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in the release.

“The victim and accused are not known to one another.”

Officers located the accused and took him into custody.

The senior has been charged with sexual assault as a result of the investigation.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24.
