Sault police seek help with smoke detector theft investigation

Sault police and Crime Stoppers ask for help identifying suspects in the theft of nearly $2,200 in smoke detectors from a local business this month.

Sault police are investigating the theft of thousands in smoke detectors earlier this month.

Police said two male suspects entered a business near White Oak Drive on Sept. 10 and stole almost $2,200 in smoke detectors and a cassette smart switch.

“They were seen driving a grey Ford F-150,” said officials with Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District in a news release.

Portions of the incident were captured by video surveillance cameras and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Crime Stoppers are requesting the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect.

“Do you recognize these individuals?” asked Brian Lester, a director for local Crime Stoppers, in a related online video.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects is asked to contact Sault police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
