Sault man charged following shed break-in, theft

A 51-year-old local man is facing multiple charges following an early morning break-in at a residential shed in Sault Ste. Marie.

Police say officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Lake Street around 4:10 a.m. on May 6 after 911 operators received a report that someone had broken into a shed behind their property.

“An investigation revealed a suspect had broken into a locked shed, took several items, loaded them into a vehicle and driven away,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

Investigation leads to Timothy Place

A search led officers to the 0-100 block of Timothy Place, where a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car was found parked.

Items recovered

When officers arrived on Timothy Place, they observed the suspect actively unloading items from the vehicle. The stolen property from the shed was already seen outside the vehicle.

The accused was taken into custody.

“Officers saw the suspect unloading items from the vehicle, as well as the items reported stolen from the victims’ shed already outside the vehicle,” police said.

Police confirmed the victims’ items were recovered.

Charges and court date

The accused has been charged with theft, breaking and entering to commit an indictable offence, and possession of property obtained by crime.

The man was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 27.
