Ontario Provincial Police are looking for witnesses following a rock-climbing accident Sunday at Bear Mountain located on Bear Lake in Algonquin Highlands Township. “At around 1:45 p.m., officers were sent to investigate a report of a climber that had been injured while descending Bear Mountain,” police said in a news release Sept. 28. “Upon arrival, officers were informed that two members of a group of climbers had completed their climb and were in the process of descending when one of them was struck by a falling rock.” Police said the climber has lost consciousness and had to be assisted down. Officers said the area is only accessible by water, so fire rescue launched a boat to take police and paramedics to the scene. OPP said the climber was transported to a pre-arranged landing area for Ornge transport them a Toronto area trauma centre. OPP are now looking for hikers or climbers who may have witnessed the incident.
