Police seize fentanyl, charge 4 in northern Ont. First Nation raid

Two teenagers from the Greater Toronto Area are among four people charged in a drug bust in Sagamok First Nation early Friday morning.

The Anishinabek Police Service has laid more than a dozen charges following a drug trafficking investigation in the First Nation community.

The investigation began in October into the trafficking of fentanyl and methamphetamine from a specific residence in Sagamok Anishnawbek.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 21, officers with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at the residence.

Charges, seizure

As a result of the search, investigators seized 29 grams of fentanyl, three cellphones, $10,150 in cash and an expandable baton.

A 33-year-old woman from Sagamok Anishnawbek was taken into custody at the residence and has been charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. Two 18-year-old men from North York were also taken into custody at the scene. Both face charges of drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Medical emergency during raid

“A 39-year-old male from Sagamok Anishnawbek was arrested at the residence and transported to hospital due to suspected opioid consumption,” said police in a news release.

“He has since been released.”

The local man was also charged with drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose along with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

All four individuals have since been released on an undertaking.
