The Anishinabek Police Service has charged two individuals with drug trafficking after a traffic stop in Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg, also referred to as Pic Mobert First Nation. Police said that on the evening of Sept. 9, an officer was conducting general patrol at the Pow Wow Grounds when they observed a suspicious vehicle. “The officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 and advised the driver as to the reason for the stop,” police said in a news release. “Both the driver and the passenger were known to police and stated they were present in the community to go fishing.” The Indigenous police force said a roadside investigation led to reasonable grounds for both to be arrested for drug trafficking. Seizure includes more than 100 pills, cash A search of the vehicle and the two accused incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of: The driver, a 31-year-old Toronto man, and the passenger, a 44-year-old local woman, were both charged with drug trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime. Police said the woman had previously been issued a trespass notice under Sections 40(a), 40(b), and 40(c) of the Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg Trespassing and Safety Naaknigewin, in effect since September 2025. As a result, she is now also charged with five counts of trespassing on Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg territory. Both accused were released on an undertaking with a scheduled court date in November.
