Police seize $172K in drugs and cash in northwestern Ont.

Three suspects -- including one from southern Ontario -- have been charged with drug and weapons offences following a police raid of two residences in the northwestern Ontario community of Longlac.

Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police and the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service conducted a joint investigation into drug trafficking in the area, which culminated in the execution of two search warrants April 21 at residences on Centennial Drive and John Street.

Police found drugs believed to be 109 grams of fentanyl, 135 grams of crack cocaine and 33 grams of cocaine with an estimated potential street value of $152,800.

Bearspray, loaded firearm

“Investigators also seized a loaded firearm, bear spray, a digital scale and an estimated $20,000 in (cash),” police said in a news release April 23.

Charged are a 19-year-old man from North York, as well as a 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman from Longlac.

They face several drug trafficking and weapons charges, as well as possession of property obtained by crime more than $5,000. The female suspect is also charged with violating probation.

They were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone at a later date.
