Police seize $110K in meth at remote northern Ont. airport

A woman faces drug trafficking charges after police seized $110K worth of methamphetamine pills and crystal meth during her arrest at a rural airport.

A routine call for service at the community airport in Attawapiskat First Nation has resulted in a significant drug bust.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service said members of its Attawapiskat detachment responded to a disturbance on the afternoon of Nov. 18.

Discovery and arrest

Upon their arrival at the airport, the situation, which began as a trespassing complaint, quickly escalated into a more serious investigation.

A female was taken into custody for trespassing, but a subsequent search revealed far more severe allegations.

“Further investigation revealed she was in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine pills and crystal methamphetamine,” said the First Nation police service in a news release Wednesday.

“The estimated street value of drugs seized totals $110,000.”

Charges laid, suspect released

A 30-year-old woman from Attawapiskat First Nation now faces two drug trafficking charges as a result of the incident.

The accused has since been released from custody with conditions and a future court appearance date.
