Police say victims were threatened with sawed-off shotgun in Elliot Lake

Two people are facing several charges after allegedly threatening people with a shotgun over a dispute involving drugs in Elliot Lake.

A man and woman have been charged in Elliot Lake with several offences after reports of victims being threatened with a shotgun over missing drugs.

The incident took place at 7:30 p.m. May 2 at a residence on Tokyo Crescent, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

“The complainant reported that a male in the residence was threatening people in the house with a sawed-off shotgun because of a dispute over stolen drugs,” the OPP said.

“Police arrived immediately and ensured public safety and all involved. One person had also been assaulted with a metal bar, was assessed by paramedics, and later released.”

Two people were arrested and a search warrant was executed at the residence.

A 27-year-old woman from Elliot Lake was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose and break and enter.

A 38-year-old man from Espanola was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose, break and enter, two counts of pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, possessing a firearm while prohibited, failing to comply with a release order and two counts of breaking probation orders.

The accused were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on May 3.
