Police charge five people in early morning Wikwemikong bust

An early morning search warrant executed by police in Wikwemikong led to 70 charges against five people for drug and firearms offences July 26.

Officers found the five inside a residence on Ojibway Street at 5:30 a.m. where they arrested, police said in a news release Sunday.

“Through continued persistence and strong community partnerships, we will keep targeting those responsible for drug trafficking and work relentlessly to remove illegal drugs and illegal firearms from our Territory,” said Chief of Police Ron Gignac.

Two handguns, cocaine, crack cocaine and hydromorphone tablets were seized as well as $40,000 cash.

A 45-year-old woman, a 44-year-old-man and a 31-year-old man, all from Wikwemikong, face various charges while two 18-year-old men from the Durham region were also charged by police.

The accused are in custody pending a bail hearing, police said.
