OPP stop same Sask. commercial driver 3 times in 24 hours

A 24-year-old Saskatchewan driver and a Waterloo-based transport company are facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police stopped the same commercial vehicle three times in 24 hours over the Labour Day long weekend.

OPP said the driver was issued 19 provincial offences notices and the vehicle was ordered out of service twice during the series of incidents across northwestern Ontario.

Multiple infractions lead to summonses

Police said some of the charges are related to the fact the load on the transport was too wide and too long. Other charges include failing to ensure performance standards are met and driving a commercial motor vehicle without the required inspection, Acting OPP Sgt. Lisa Lawrence said in an email to CTV News on Wednesday.

‘Safety laws aren’t optional’

In a social media post, OPP reminded all commercial vehicle drivers and companies to abide by the law.

“Safety laws aren’t optional,” police said.

Authorities added that both the driver and the company “will be held accountable for the many infractions they chose to ignore.”
