OPP sobriety check results in $200K drug bust

OPP seized $200,000 in cocaine and arrested a 28-year-old Sioux Lookout man following an impaired driver call at a Henvey Inlet First Nation gas station.

A tip about a possibly impaired driver at a gas station led to a significant drug seizure and multiple charges by the Ontario Provincial Police earlier this month.

OPP charged an individual with drug-related offences after receiving a call from a “concerned citizen” around 10 a.m. on Aug. 12.

Traffic stop investigation uncovers cocaine

According to police, the call reported a possible impaired driver stopped at a gas station on Henvey Inlet First Nation.

“Officers attended to investigate the driver’s sobriety,” the OPP said in a news release.

During their subsequent investigation, officers discovered and seized approximately two kilograms of suspected cocaine from the driver’s vehicle.

Police have estimated the street value of the seized drugs at $200,000.

Northwestern Ont. man faces multiple charges

As a result, the driver, a 28-year-old man from Sioux Lookout, was taken into custody at the scene. He has been charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, possession of property obtained by crime and having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

The accused was held for bail and his next court appearance is scheduled in Parry Sound on Sept. 15.
