OPP seize $50K in drugs in northern Ont. raid, two charged

A joint police investigation in a northern Ontario community has resulted in a significant drug seizure and trafficking charges against two local residents.

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service executed a search warrant at a residence on Martel Road in Chapleau on Jan. 14.

The operation culminated in the discovery of a quantity of suspected narcotics that police say has an estimated street value of $50,000.

“During the search, officers seized suspected fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, speed and cocaine, along with a scale and packaging materials,” OPP said in a news release.

Following the search, a 31-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, both from Chapleau, were taken into custody.

Each faces three drug trafficking charges. The woman has also been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, while the man faces two counts of failing to comply with probation orders.

Both accused were held pending a bail hearing.
