OPP rules out foul play in West Nipissing nursing home death

An 85-year-old resident at the Au Chateau nursing home in Sturgeon Falls died Sept. 23. An OPP investigation has ruled out foul play.

Ontario Provincial Police have concluded their investigation into a death at a West Nipissing nursing home, determining no foul play was involved.

The investigation began on the evening of Sept. 23, after police were called to Au Chateau nursing home on Michaud Street in Sturgeon Falls.

Police said they had begun a death investigation at about 10 p.m. that evening.

An 85-year-old resident of West Nipissing was found deceased by staff members.

The nursing home declined to comment on the investigation when it began, per advice from its legal team.

The Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit conducted the investigation in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to determine the cause of death.

Case closed

“There was no foul play,” OPP said in a news release Monday.

No further details about the cause of death were released.
