OPP, MTO lay 43 charges in northwestern Ontario truck inspection blitz

A two-day commercial motor vehicle safety initiative in northwestern Ontario has resulted in dozens of charges and multiple vehicles being taken off the road.

The Ontario Provincial Police, in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation, conducted the enforcement campaign in the Rush Bay and Kenora areas on Nov. 11 and 12.

Dozens of vehicles inspected, charges laid

“A strong balance of education and enforcement was achieved over the two days,” OPP said in a news release.

The two days saw officers issue 26 warnings, lay 43 Provincial Offences charges and take 20 vehicles out of service. The initiative also completed 47 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspections.

Commitment to road safety

Provincial Police emphasized the collaborative nature of the effort with provincial transport officials.

“This joint enforcement initiative highlights the continued collaboration between the OPP and MTO to enhance commercial motor vehicle safety, improve road safety and ensure regulatory compliance,” OPP said.

“Collectively, these agencies remain committed to reducing collisions and deterring unsafe vehicle operation.”
