OPP find ‘meth’ found after driver handed officer two licences

A 34-year-old West Nipissing man is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop on King Street led to an impaired driving investigation and the discovery of what police say they suspect is meth.

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police’s Nipissing West detachment conducted the stop at about 2:15 p.m. on April 1.

“The driver provided two driver licenses and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing,” police said in a news release.

OPP said following the arrest, officers located a small amount of drugs suspected to be methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, the motorist was charged with impaired driving, drug possession, possessing more than one licence and driving with no clear view to side and rear.

In addition to the charges, the man was issued an immediate 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on May 7.
