One person was airlifted to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries Oct. 6 when an SUV, a bus and a tractor-trailer collided on Highway 11 east of Geraldton, Ont. Ontario Provincial Police said the collision took place around 6:45 a.m. near MacLeod Provincial Park. “A second individual was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries,” the OPP said in a news release Oct. 7. A section of Highway 11 between Highway 17 and Highway 625 was closed for several hours while police investigated the scene. OPP Const. Erin McCrea said in an email that the bus driver was the lone occupant in the bus at the time of the crash. “An initial accident was between the SUV and bus, and a secondary collision occurred between that same SUV and the tractor-trailer unit,” McCrea said. “I’m unable to confirm the extent of the damages, however, I can confirm all vehicles were towed from the scene.” No charges have been laid, although the collision is still under investigation. McCrea said she couldn’t reveal the type of bus that was involved or which company operated the bus. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
