Northern Ont. woman was driving stolen vehicle in Hwy. 655 crash: OPP

A 21-year-old woman from Constance Lake is facing charges after a two-vehicle crash involving a stolen car on Highway 655 in Calder Township.

A 21-year-old woman from Constance Lake First Nation faces multiple charges after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 655 that involved a stolen car, Ontario Provincial Police say.

OPP responded to the “serious” collision on Highway 655, about eight kilometres south of Highway 11 in Calder Township, at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Monday.

Police said the crash involved two passenger vehicles and one had been reported stolen earlier in the day out of Hearst.

One occupant of a passenger vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

“The driver of the vehicle that had been reported stolen suffered minor injuries was treated at the scene,” OPP said in a news release Tuesday.

Police said Highway 655 was closed between Kidd Creek Mine Road in Timmins and Highway 11 in Driftwood for approximately five hours following the crash.

The driver of the stolen vehicle has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and driving a motor vehicle with no licence.

She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Cochrane on April 7.

Crash still being investigated

OPP said the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
