Northern Ont. man charged after stolen trailer tips over

A West Nipissing man faces theft and drug charges after OPP recovered a stolen trailer and crack cocaine during a traffic stop on Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police have charged one person and recovered a stolen trailer following an early morning traffic stop that led to a brief attempt to flee.

The incident occurred on Monday at about 3:30 a.m. on Dutrisac Road in West Nipissing.

Police said that officers conducted a stop of a vehicle that was towing a trailer.

“The vehicle attempted to flee from police but overturned the trailer when making a turn,” OPP said in a news release Tuesday.

Police confirmed the overturned trailer had been reported as stolen and the driver was taken into custody at the scene.

“A search of the vehicle located a small amount of drugs suspected to be crack cocaine,” said police.

As a result of the incident, a 36-year-old local man faces charges of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and drug possession.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on Dec. 4.
