North Bay police arrest robbery suspect, find $11K in illicit drugs

A Mississauga man has been charged in a North Bay robbery. Police say a known suspect fled after an altercation at a Lakeshore Drive retailer.

A 20-year-old man from Mississauga is facing weapons and drug trafficking charges following an armed robbery in North Bay on Dec. 7.

The robbery took place outside a retailer in the 300 block of Lakeshore Drive, police said in a news release Tuesday. The victim and the suspect know each other.

“Following an altercation, the accused brandished a weapon and robbed the victim, before fleeing the area,” police said.

BB gun, drugs seized

An investigation led police to an address in the same area, where the man was arrested Dec. 13. A search warrant was executed at the address, where a Glock-style BB gun and drugs were seized.

Drugs seized had a street value of $11,000 and included 27 grams of crystal meth, one gram of fentanyl, 26 grams of cocaine and 40 grams of crack cocaine. A total of $1,660 in cash was also found.

The suspect has been charged with several offences, including robbery with violence, using a firearm while committing an offence, drug trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
