The project at Leo Del Villano Park in Timmins has brought new tennis and pickleball courts, as well as a new playground, to the park on Pine Street South. The city says the new courts are just about ready to open. The project added a fourth tennis court and four pickleball courts. Players told CTV News that they have been waiting for the upgrade. “I think they look spectacular. It’s great to have a modern facility. Good surface, good lighting. So, we just can’t wait to get on,” said Tom Dolanjski, a member of the Timmins Tennis Club. The old courts were cracking and the lighting was outdated. “We’ve got confirmation that the surface is complete,” said Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau. “At this point, it’s really just completing the landscape restoration, some grading work, and resodding.” Officials said the city also plans to upgrade the washroom and storage facilities and rework the parking area. The courts contract totals about $1.5 million, while the park also has new playground equipment worth around $237,000. The city expects the courts to be in use sometime this fall, with more work continuing next summer.
