Man charged after two commercial trucks collide on Highway 17

A 41-year-old man from Kenora, Ont., is facing multiple charges, including failing to remain after a collision, following a crash between two commercial motor vehicles in northwestern Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a collision on Highway 17 near Hawk Lake just after 1 a.m. on Friday.

“There were no serious injuries reported,” said OPP in a news release.

OPP said that one of the motorists departed the scene eastbound toward Dryden following the crash.

Officers from the Dryden OPP detachment later located a commercial motor vehicle matching the description of the one involved.

“Through the investigation, it was determined that the driver failed to remain on scene after a motor vehicle collision and did not possess a valid driver’s licence,” OPP said.

As a result, the motorist has been charged with careless driving, driving while suspended and failing to remain after a collision.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
