Hwy. 11-17 near Thunder Bay reopens after fatal crash

The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said Thursday afternoon that Highway 11-17 near Sistonens Corners has reopened after a fatal collision involving a transport and a car.

The crash took place around 7 a.m. Thursday. Thunder Bay OPP and emergency medical services responded to the two-vehicle collision.

“A 28-year-old female from Kakabeka Falls was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a news release.

“Highway 11-17 is currently closed at Kakabeka Falls and Sistonens Corners and traffic is being rerouted to Highway 102. The stretch of highway is expected to remain closed for several hours as police conduct their investigation.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
