GTA residents charged after Thunder Bay drug seizure

Two men from the Greater Toronto Area are facing drug-trafficking charges after provincial police say officers seized more than 1.5 kilograms of illicit drugs in northwestern Ontario.

The Ontario Provincial Police-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team, with members from the Thunder Bay Police Service and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, conducted an intelligence-led investigation in June 2026 into suspected drug trafficking activity in Thunder Bay.

The investigation suggested that illicit drugs were transported into Thunder Bay by bus from the GTA, police said.

Investigation leads to motel search, vehicle stop

On June 23, officers executed a search warrant at a motel in Thunder Bay and a vehicle stop was also conducted near Dryden by OPP members.

As a result of these searches, OPP said officers seized approximately 1.1 kilograms of suspected crack cocaine and about 500 grams of suspected cocaine.

“The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $282,000,” police said in a news release.

Police also recovered $770 in Canadian currency and $300 U.S. dollars.

Two accused remanded into custody

A 29-year-old from York has been charged with drug trafficking and breach of probation.

The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on July 10.

Also charged is a 29-year-old man from Mississauga. He is charged with drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” said OPP.
