Flooding closes Hwy. 17 between Wawa and Batchewana Bay

A washed-out section between Wawa and Batchawana Bay has closed Highway 17 in both directions. Police warn that the closure will last several days.

A road washout caused by flooding has closed Highway 17 in both directions between Batchewana Bay and Wawa.

Ontario Provincial Police said on social media Wednesday that the road will be closed for a while.

“Highway 17 is closed from Pinewood Drive in Wawa to Highway 563 in Batchewana Bay due to unsafe road conditions in the area,” police said.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the closure is expected to last a few days due to repairs.”
