First Nations police seize more than $211K in cocaine

A drug bust late last month in Keewaywin First Nation resulted in the seizure of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $211,000, the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service said in a news release March 3.

Three suspects have been arrested following a raid of a residence on the First Nation on Feb. 23.

“The search warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking within the community,” police said.

“When police entered the home, they located and arrested three suspects without incident. During their search, police located and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, a rifle, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.”

Police also seized $32,000 in cash.

Charged is a 21-year-old from Winnipeg and two 39-year-old suspects from Keewaywin First Nation.

They face several charges for drug trafficking, weapons offences and possession of the proceeds of crime of more than $5,000.

All three appeared for a bail hearing on Feb. 24. Two were released with a future court date, while the suspect from Winnipeg was remanded into custody.
