A 41-year-old local man is in custody following the execution of a drug warrant in Elliot Lake on Tuesday evening. Ontario Provincial Police executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence on Hart Road at about 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 4. OPP said that prior to actioning the warrant, officers observed the suspect on Brunswick Walk and made an arrest. “While searching the individual police located suspected cocaine and fentanyl in the individual’s pants pockets, as well as two pre-packaged aluminum foil packets containing suspected cocaine,” OPP said in a news release Wednesday. Search yields cash, drugs and paraphernalia At the Hart Road residence, OPP said officers seized additional suspected drugs, along with a digital scale, packaging materials, two cellular phones and about $40 in cash. “In total, the following suspected drugs were seized, with an estimated combined street value of $5,990,” police said. The seized drugs included: As a result, the man was charged with three counts of drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime. The accused was held for a bail hearing in Blind River on Aug. 5 and subsequently remanded into custody.
