Drugs seized, $150K in property recovered, 21 people arrested by Sudbury police

Police in Greater Sudbury say an initiative centred on two buildings on Paris Street ended in 21 arrests and the recovery of $150K in stolen property.

An enforcement initiative by police in Greater Sudbury, centred on two apartment buildings on Paris Street, resulted in 21 arrests and the recovery of $150,000 in stolen property.

In a news release Thursday afternoon, police said ‘Project Paris’ was conducted between Oct. 27 and Nov. 7 in response to concerns from residents living in buildings at 1920 and 1960 Paris St.

“This proactive initiative focused on individuals who posed a risk to public safety through bail compliance checks, warrant apprehensions and targeted enforcement against high-risk individuals involved in drug trafficking and organized crime,” police said.

Site of double homicide

“The project was a collaborative effort involving members of the community response unit, patrol operations and the integrated crime section.”

One of the buildings targeted – 1960 Paris St., formerly known as Rumball Terrace – was the site of a double homicide last summer that police believe was connected to the illegal drug trade.

Project Paris resulted in 21 people being charged with outstanding warrants or new charges. That includes 28 charges for criminal offences, drug offences and the Highway Traffic Act.

Drugs seized include $3,100 worth of cocaine (24 grams) and 122 Oxycodone pills, along with $15,000 in cash. Police also recovered $150,000 of stolen property.

“Project Paris resulted in a noticeable reduction in drug activity, fostering a safer environment for residents and community partners,” police said.

“The initiative generated positive feedback and increased engagement from community members, reinforcing trust and collaboration.”

The initiative was also a model for further coordinated operations, “strengthened inter-unit cooperation and intelligence-sharing, laying the groundwork for sustained enforcement efforts,” police added.

“Moving forward, we remain committed to working collaboratively with the City of Greater Sudbury and residents of 1920 and 1960 Paris St. to build trust, reduce crime, and hold offenders accountable.”
