A 28-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving-related offences after police in Sault Ste. Marie say they received a report of a motor vehicle collision early Monday. Police said officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 24 following a report to 911 operators about a collision in the 800 block of Lake Street. “An investigation revealed the driver, identified as the accused, struck an unoccupied vehicle parked in a driveway,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release on Tuesday. Officers said the accused provided a breath sample into an approved screening device, which registered a ‘fail.’ The man was taken into custody and transported to the Police Services Building, where police said he provided multiple breath samples to a qualified technician, all of which registered above the legal limit. Charges and penalties As a result, the motorist is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle along with two impaired driving offences – including operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. In addition to the charges, under provincial law, the man also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for one week. The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21.
