Expect warm, humid conditions today before a cold front moves through the region tonight, bringing the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms, according to CTV News meteorologist Julie Atchison. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 20s this afternoon, with increasing humidity making it feel more like the low 30s. “We’re starting to see the cloud cover build in advance of a cold front that will be pushing into the area late tonight,” Atchison said. “You can see the rain developing out over Lake Huron, so we’ll bring in the risk for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon through the Bruce Peninsula, with the rest of the region seeing that risk through the evening.” Atchison said the atmosphere will become increasingly unstable as the cold front approaches, creating conditions favourable for showers and thunderstorms overnight. “Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop tonight,” she said, noting London could see storms move through around 10 p.m., with activity also expected in Huron and Perth counties, as well as parts of Sarnia and Chatham-Kent. The frontal system is expected to move eastward overnight, bringing a shift in wind direction and slightly cooler conditions for Thursday. “That front will push through the area and the winds will come in out of the northwest as we head into tomorrow,” Atchison said. Despite the change in weather, temperatures will remain mild overnight, with lows settling in the upper teens. For Thursday, northwesterly winds off Lake Huron are expected to generate some lingering cloud cover, although sunny breaks are anticipated throughout the day. “We will see a bit of cloud cover hanging on, but some peaks of sunshine and not a bad Thursday setting up with the forecast high at 26 degrees,” Atchison said. The outlook improves further heading into the weekend. Friday is expected to be mainly sunny with a high of 23 C and lower humidity, while Saturday is shaping up to be sunny and dry. “A beautiful day and a great weekend is setting up,” Atchison said. Cloud cover is forecast to increase again on Sunday, accompanied by rising humidity. Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-to-upper 20s, but humidex values could make it feel closer to the low 30s.
