Charges laid in West Nipissing intimate partner violence case

Ontario Provincial Police have charged one person after responding to a reported disturbance between intimate partners last week in West Nipissing.

OPP responded to an area residence at about 3:55 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28.

Police have charged a 37-year-old individual from Norfolk in connection with the incident.

“Information was provided to police about past intimate partner violence, in which one person was assaulted that had required medical attention, property was damaged and a threat was made by the other partner,” police said in a news release Monday.

The accused faces charges of uttering threats, assault, assault causing bodily harm, and two counts of mischief.

Identity withheld to protect victim

The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay at a future date.

“The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victims,” said police.
