Police seek to ID suspect in Walmart theft in Sault Ste. Marie

Sault police and Crime Stoppers ask for help identifying a suspect in a theft from Walmart Supercentre on March 6.

Sault police and Crime Stoppers have released surveillance images and are seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect in a theft investigation at a local retailer.

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District, in partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, issued a plea for help on Friday and detailed the incident from earlier this month.

The incident occurred March 6 at the Walmart Supercentre on Greater North Road.

“An unknown female was observed taking a handbag and clothes valued at $160 from Walmart,” said Crime Stoppers in a news release.

“The suspect walked out of the store, leaving in a silver car.”

Portions of the incident were captured by video surveillance cameras, and Sault police and Crime Stoppers are requesting the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect.

Authorities have distributed the surveillance images and a video along with an appeal for information.

Appealing to the community

“Do you recognize this individual?” asked Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Sault police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

“If you have information, contact Crime Stoppers,” the organization said in a related online video.
