Sault police investigate after elderly tenant shoved

Sault police and Crime Stoppers ask for help identifying a suspect in an assault at a local apartment building on May 20, 2025.

Sault police are investigating an assault incident at a local apartment complex last month.

On May 20, according to police, a group of individuals was gathered in the hallway of an apartment building when an elderly tenant asked them to leave.

“An unidentified male shoved the tenant into a wall, injuring his elbow and causing him to fall to the ground,” said officials with Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District in a news release.

The suspect was not apprehended at the time.

Portions of the incident were captured by video surveillance cameras and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Crime Stoppers are requesting the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect.

“Do you recognize this individual,” asked Brian Lester, a local director with Crime Stoppers, in a related online video.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects is asked to contact Sault police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

“Your tip could make a difference,” said Crime Stoppers.
