Another impaired driver caught on Hwy 11, police say

Some not getting the message on impaired driving Since the start of the Festive RIDE campaign in mid-November provincial police in our region have charged 87 people with impaired driving.

A 25-year-old Hearst woman is charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop on Highway 11 on Wednesday.

On April 3 just before 5 p.m., members of the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Highway 11 in Hanlon Township, west of Heart, police said in a news release.

“Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that the driver had been consuming an intoxicating substance,” said police.

“The driver was arrested and transported to the Hearst detachment for further testing.”

As a result of the investigation, the 25-year-old female driver from Hearst, Ont., was charged with impaired driving and failing to surrender her insurance card.

The vehicle involved was impounded for seven days by police and the accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 15.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

“The OPP remains committed to ensuring our roads are safe from drug-impaired and alcohol-impaired drivers,” said police.

“We urge everyone to make responsible choices when it comes to driving and to report any suspected impaired driving immediately.”
