Active police scene closed Thunder Bay streets, now reopened

Thunder Bay police have advised that an active incident, which prompted road closures and a heavy police presence in a north-side neighbourhood on Sunday, has now concluded, and all areas have reopened.

Police initially asked the public to avoid the area from Leslie Avenue to Grenville Avenue along Arundel Street, as well as the vicinity of the Strathcona Golf Course, due to an active police response.

“There was no immediate risk to public safety,” the Thunder Bay Police Service stated in its initial news release Sunday morning.

Police said that emergency services were on scene and had asked the public to use alternate routes and follow directions from officers.

Advisory lifted

In an update issued at 2:30 p.m., police advised that the area had reopened and normal traffic flow had resumed.

“The police presence has concluded and there is no ongoing risk to public safety,” said the police service.

“Drivers and pedestrians may resume normal travel in the area.”

No further details about the nature of the incident or the reason for the police presence have been released.

“Further updates will be provided as information becomes available,” said police.
