Rain, snow and sleet hit Quebec to start the week

A mix of rain, snow and sleet is expected to continue falling in various parts of Quebec on Monday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

In Montreal, Sunday’s snow has given way to rain for the morning, but flurries are expected to return by the afternoon.

ECCC predicts that several centimetres of snow could fall by Tuesday.

In Quebec City, 15 millimetres of rain is expected before the snow returns overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Heavier snowfalls are expected further north, where several warnings and special weather statements are in effect.

The agency is forecasting 10 to 20 centimetres of snow in Charlevoix, the Côte-Nord and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, in particular, but accumulations could be greater in some areas.

In Bas-Saint-Laurent, ECCC says it expects accumulations of nearly 10 centimetres.

Several road accidents and power outages occurred on Sunday due to the wet weather.

Early Monday, just under 10,000 addresses remained without power, according to Hydro-Quebec, mainly in the Montérégie, Laurentians and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.

The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is reminding motorists to drive carefully as the winter tire deadline is not until Dec. 1.
