Quebec Liberals considering suing PQ leader for defamation

The Quebec Liberal Party is considering suing PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon for claiming that Liberal governments were corrupt.

Liberal MNA Marc Tanguay said Tuesday morning at the Quebec legislature that analyses are currently underway at the highest levels of the Liberal Party.

According to Tanguay, his PQ opponent’s comments are defamatory, while his colleague, House Leader Michelle Setlakwe, added that they are unacceptable and unworthy.

Tanguay added that St-Pierre Plamondon is demonstrating that he is not fit to be premier of Quebec.

The PQ leader stands by his comments.

“The Liberal Party’s fear campaign (on the risks of independence promoted by the PQ), combined with an abysmal lack of substance, has led us to corrupt and self-serving Liberal governments in almost every decade of our history,” he said during a press scrum at the National Assembly.

With the arrival of new leader, Pablo Rodriguez, in June, who was previously a minister in the Trudeau government, “this combines with federal Liberal corruption,” he added.
