A 37-year-old woman who was found unconscious and critically injured on a street in Montreal’s LaSalle borough early Sunday has died of her injuries. Emergency services were called to Clément Street near Saint-Patrick Street around 1:15 a.m. after a 911 call. The woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries. “A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene for driving while impaired by alcohol,” said SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin. “He was taken to a detention centre.” It remains unclear whether the woman was struck by the vehicle. “Several scenarios are being looked at by investigators,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant. “Was she hit by the vehicle? Was she in the vehicle before? Did she fall or jump from the vehicle while it was moving?” Brabant said what is certain is that the vehicle was involved in some way. SPVM collision reconstruction experts and vehicle inspectors are working to clarify the circumstances, and officers were expected to canvass the neighbourhood for information. “It was dark around 1:15 a.m. and there weren’t many witnesses,” Brabant said. “We’ll try to get more information from surveillance footage and by going door to door in the nearby apartment buildings.” A security perimeter was established to allow investigators to examine the scene.
