Woman allegedly pushed from third-floor balcony, man, 31, charged: Montreal police

Montreal police (SPVM) spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant explains after a woman appears to have been pushed from a third-storey balcony.

A 31-year-old woman is in critical condition after being allegedly pushed from a balcony and falling three storeys on Thursday morning in Montreal’s Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

Montreal police (SPVM) say officers responded to 911 calls at around 8:15 a.m., reporting that a woman in her 30s was seriously injured and lying on a sidewalk on Sainte-Catherine Street East near Jeanne-D’Arc Avenue.

“At a certain point, she was pushed and she fell three storeys down,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant. “We found her on the sidewalk she was unconcious.”

She remains in the hospital in critical condition.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on site and transported to a detention centre.

He appeared in court on Friday and faces a charge of aggravated assault. He remains detained.

“It seemed that an altercation escalated between that woman and a man on the balcony,” said Brabant.

The investigation is ongoing.
