What’s open and closed in Montreal for the Easter long weekend

Planning to run errands or visit a city facility over the Easter long weekend? Here’s what you need to know before heading out.

Good Friday falls on April 3, Easter Sunday is on April 5 and Easter Monday is on April 6.

General retail and shopping malls

Easter Sunday (April 5) is the only mandatory closing day of the holiday under Quebec law, though some businesses are exempt. Friday April 3, Saturday April 4, and Monday April 6 are all normal business days for commercial establishments.

Grocery stores

The rules vary by store size on Sunday:

• Large-format stores will be closed Sunday
• Small-format stores, dépanneurs and neighbourhood groceries: open all weekend at normal hours
• Friday, Saturday and Monday: all grocery stores open at normal hours

Pharmacies

Open at regular business hours.

SAQ

Friday, Saturday and Monday: all locations open at normal hours. On Sunday, SAQ Dépôt locations are closed, and other SAQ locations follow the same size-based rules as grocery stores. Check your local branch at SAQ.com.

SQDC

Closed Sunday. Open at regular hours Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Banks

Closed on Good Friday. Generally open on Easter Monday.

SAAQ

Service offices closed Good Friday and Easter Monday. Online services available at saaq.gouv.qc.ca.

Canada Post

Closed Good Friday and Easter Monday. Outlets inside pharmacies or other businesses may follow the host store’s hours, but it’s worth calling ahead.

City of Montreal services

• Bureaux Accès Montréal (BAM) and permit counters: Closed Friday and Monday
• Municipal court: Closed Friday and Monday (detained persons’ hearings still held at 775 Gosford St.)
• Ecocentres: Open Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday
• All curbside collections (garbage, recycling, food waste, bulky items): Maintained as normal
• Sports facilities, libraries, and Maisons de la culture: hours vary by borough, so check montreal.ca before you go
• Espace pour la vie (Biodôme, Biosphère, Insectarium, Botanical Garden, Planétarium): open all weekend

Any city permit requests submitted during the holiday will be processed starting April 7.
