A crane operator is recovering in hospital after a rescue operation. Montreal police (SPVM) said that a construction worker called 911 around 11:55 a.m. after a man was unconscious on the third storey of a library building being constructed on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard and Oscar Avenue in Montreal North. Montreal firefighters (SIM) were able to reach the man and bring him down, and he was sent to the hospital. SIM spokesperson Kevin Francoeur said around 20 firefighters were involved in the rescue and that the operation went smoothly. “No problems at all,” said Francoeur, adding that the operation took about an hour-and-a-half. SPVM spokesperson Veronique Dubuc confirmed that he is out of danger. She had no details about how the man became unconscious, but did say that the event is not considered criminal and the Quebec workers’ safety board (CNESST) will investigate.
